5 TIPS TO TAKE GOOD INSTAGRAM FOOD PICTURES WITH YOUR PHONE

You know for sure how much I love Instagram (follow @frenchfoodieindublin).

My account is a mix of food and Dublin and I summarize my blog. I'm not the best food photographer, but I've been asked for advice a lot, so I wanted to share 5 tips for taking great Instagram food photos with your phone.

1. lighting.

Do not photograph food at night or under artificial lighting. Especially in winter, when cooking or eating out, it is very easy to say. Take photos of food in natural light (not in direct sunlight), preferably near a window.

2. Modify the app.

Well, you may need a filter or two. I personally don't use Instagram filters, but I chose this particular style. There are many editing apps you can use to make your food photos stand out. Try VSCO Cam, Snapseed, Foodie and Afterlight.

3. Corner.

Keep an eye on the corners to get the most out of your food. A lot of people bring food from above (I often do this myself).

4. Background.

I like to use a white background to make my food stand out. It also goes well with the wooden table and background. Using a wall as a background is also really cool if you're shooting an ice cream cone or something from the side.

5. Follow people taking good food photos.

It may sound strange, but it's the best way to enhance your food photography. There are a lot of talented people out there and you can get a lot of inspiration. Seeing what others are doing tells you what you want to improve and what works and styles you like. It's not about copying, it's about learning from the community.
